Most of compact portable electronic products such as PDA’s, calculators, watches, blink lights as well as digital cameras need batteries to function. When it comes to the batteries, it is essential to understand what kind of battery fit for the equipment that you have so that you can buy one with the right type and size.
As you may already know there has been a shift from the old conventional batteries to the more advanced lithium batteries in the past few years. It seems that the alkaline batteries have been left behind and there has been an increase in the use of the lithium battery such the CR2032 lithium battery.
CR2032 battery is a small form-factor battery designed for use in a lot of electronic devices such as mentioned above. C denotes that the cathode is manganese dioxide, and the anode is lithium. The letter R indicates the round shape.
What does the 2032 mean? The code is known as the electromechanical method of naming. The numbers in the code associate with the battery dimensions. The first two digits indicate the diameter of the battery, and the last two digits indicate the overall height. So, the 20 means the diameter of the CR2032 battery is 20mm and 32 means 3.2 in height.
The ways the CR2032 battery work is that current is generated when the charge flows via an organic electrolyte from cathode to the anode. As mentioned, the anode is lithium and the cathode is the manganese dioxide. The normal charge that this battery produces is 3V.
One advantage of the CR2032 lithium batteries is that they have a long life. It is said that the shelf life of these batteries is about 10 years. However, the batteries can get damaged by overheating so be careful and make you sure to remove the batteries from your equipment after long usage.
