The Powershot S3 IS has a 6.0 megapixel resolution delivering image resolutions as large as 2,816 x 2,112 pixels. Just like its predecessor, the Powershot S2 IS, the Canon S3 is equipped with UD lens providing brilliant color accuracy across the entire zoom range. This camera is also equipped with optical image stabilization to counter minor shaking.
Many consumers agree that the Canon Powershot S3 is an easy to use camera with plenty of buttons offering quick access to manual settings such as ISO, manual focus, and macro mode. Its handgrip offers a lot of stability and a perfect hand fit.
Perhaps the most attractive feature on the Canon S3 is its 12x optical zoom lens which covers a 35mm film equivalent focal length ranging from 36 mm to 432 mm. Though too small for some users, its 2.0 inch swiveling LCD is excellent for allowing you to compose your image with the camera held overhead or down low, and even from the front and sides.
Another interesting feature is the Movie Snap. With this mode you can trigger the shutter to take still pictures while capturing movie. However, you may find that the screen will go blank momentarily at the points where you snap pictures, but the soundtrack will remain continuous.
The Canon Powershot S3 IS digital camera can capture VGA (640 x 480 pixels) movies with outstanding image quality at a full 30 frames per second. The camera is powered by four AA batteries or optional AC adapter.
