The PIXMA iP4200 Photo Printer is a high-performance printer, combining excellent print quality with advanced convenience features. As replacement for the popular Pixma iP4000, the Canon Pixma iP4200 photo printer is fast enough for business applications.

It seems that Canon design the iP4200 to be a photo printer. Instead of the usual four inks, this 6.3 by 16.5 by 11.8-inch, 14.8-pound printer is packaged with five inks. Two separate black ink cartridges for both a pigment-based black and a dye-based black, significantly improve photo output. However, compared to the iP4000, you may find that photos take a little longer to print with the Canon iP4200 printer, but the overall features are remarkable.

The Pixma iP4200 photo printer is equipped with Canon’s Full-Photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering (FINE) print head, which releases droplets as small as 1 picoliter, providing a stunning resolution of 9,600 x 2,400 dpi. Photo performance is also fast. The iP4200 Photo Printer can produce a photo lab quality 4 x 6-inch borderless print in about 51 seconds.

Perhaps the most striking thing about this printer is that the Canon Pixma iP4200 Photo Printer has two paper-input trays. You can find a standard paper feed tray in the rear and a second paper tray that slides into the front bottom. Just load standard paper in one tray and photo paper in the other, and you can switch back and forth between standard printing and photos without having to swap out paper every time.

Another nice feature is automatic duplexing, allowing you to print on both sides of a page. However, it might take you three times as long to print a 10-page MS Word document in this mode compared with printing one-sided sheets.

In addition, Canon claims that when used with their branded photo papers, photos printed using ChromaLife 100 inks will last up to 100 years when stored in an archival quality photo album, with photos in plastic sleeves. The Canon’s ChromaLife 100 ink set, included in the Canon Pixma iP4200 photo printer, makes it possible for long-lasting prints.
