Canon A550
The Canon Powershot A550, as the successor to the Canon A530, is a quality point and shoot with solid machine. The Canon A550 is enclosed in a sturdy plastic body and available in silver only. It measures 91(W) X 64 (H) X 43(D) mm (3.6×2.5×1.7in) and weighs approx. 160gr (5.6 ounces) without battery and memory card. Of course the A550 is not that small to slip into your jeans pocket, but it can fit easily into most jacket pockets and bags.
The Canon A550 has a 7.1 megapixel resolution (delivering image resolutions as large as 3,072 x 2,304 pixels) with a 4x optical zoom (equivalent to 35-140mm on a 35mm camera). It delivers good quality images and excellent performance; this is the key of success for this camera. It also comes with a 2 inches LCD monitor to preview and line up the shot, little small but still its strong enough to pleased users. The camera also offers an optical viewfinder to line up your shot. This is very useful especially in bright light. The A550 is powered by a pair of AA batteries, allowing you to power up around the world without worry.
However, some users complain about the shutter lag. It’s basically between the time when the shutter button is pressed and when the camera actually shoots a picture. With the flash off there is no real problem with shutter lag. Instead, with the flash on the shutter lag is too slow.

- 4x optical zoom

Lastly, the Canon A550′s overall quality and performance make it a good choice for novice even advanced amateurs.
